2016 NextGen Rochester Open House

January 25, 2016

On Tuesday, January 26th, 2016, NextGen Rochester will have their annual open house at our parent organization, Rochester Area Community Foundation located at 500 East Avenue.

The event starts at 5:30pm and goes through 8:00pm for networking and meeting members.

Light appetizers and wine will be provided, and you’ll get to network in a relaxed social environment. Come to learn about NextGen and what we offer our members and the community. We also invite grant recipients to share their NextGen stories.

Why Should I Attend?

This is a great opportunity to join current members to ask questions about this Young Professional Group of Rochester.
In a nutshell, NextGen Rochester (NextGen) introduces philanthropy to young professionals who want to initiate a positive change in the community by annually pooling financial contributions from our members and awarding grants to nonprofit organizations. Members contribute a minimum of $100 per year and have the opportunity to participate in selecting the grant recipients. More on that here

Tuesday evening will be a balmy 40 some odd degrees.  So no excuses this year – Stop on out even if just for 10 minutes to say hello and meet our members.  Dress is casual and you can come at any time – no judgement here.

What Has NextGen Rochester Done for the Community?

To date, we have surpassed $67,000 in grants to 31 organizations since our founding in 2009.
This group is comprised of a cross section of the community (typically age 21-45) who find value in grant-making to local charitable causes and addressing community needs. It is the intention of NextGen Rochester to not only build assets, but compassion, knowledge, and community engagement.

How does NextGen Work?

In addition to our monthly education and site visit events for our members, the main event for grants is each fall.
Each year, the types of programs that will be funded by NextGen are identified by a member survey.  A request for proposals (RFP) is released based on the selected interest areas in the late summer.  After reviewing more than 100 initial grant applications each fall, NextGen’s Grants Committee invites approximately 10 finalist nonprofit organizations to present their grant proposals at the group’s annual meeting. This public meeting culminates with members voting to select the organizations that would receive grants.

More About NextGen Rochester
NextGen Rochester is a peer-led form of philanthropy. The members are the next generation of citizens who make “giving back” part of their lives through leadership, friendship, and philanthropy.

This group is comprised of a cross section of the community (typically age 21-45) who find value in grant-making to local charitable causes and addressing community needs. It is the intention of NextGen Rochester to not only build assets, but compassion, knowledge, and community engagement.

Each NextGen Rochester member contributes to a fund that makes grants to nonprofits selected by the members. By pooling their contributions together, emerging leaders are given a seat of influence in greater Rochester and are able to create an impact far greater than each could individually.
